Limestone sealing

What limestone sealing with us looks like

Limestone is soft, pale and thirsty. It shows every drop of red wine, every greasy sunscreen mark and every leaf that sits on it after rain. Without a sealer, those marks soak in quickly, and limestone is too soft to scrub hard to get them out.

We clean it gently with pH-neutral products and let it dry right through. Then we apply a breathable penetrating sealer made for soft, porous stone. It stops most stains soaking straight in while letting the stone breathe, and it doesn't leave a film to wear or peel.

Why it matters

What you get

Time to wipe spills

Wine, oil and sunscreen stay on top long enough to clean up.

Pale stays pale

Fewer tannin and dirt stains working into the stone.

Stone can breathe

Penetrating sealers let moisture out, so they don't trap damp.

No film to peel

Nothing on the surface to wear through or flake.

Why limestone sealing is different

Limestone is softer and more absorbent than most paving stones, and it reacts to acid. That rules out acidic cleaners before sealing and favours sealers made for soft, porous stone. Getting the clean right matters as much as the sealer, because anything left in the stone gets sealed in.

Looking after sealed limestone

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner, wipe spills quickly and avoid vinegar or other acidic products. A sealer slows stains down. It doesn't make limestone stain-proof.

Call 0416 007 745
Should limestone be sealed outdoors?

Yes. Unsealed limestone soaks up stains, salt and dirt quickly.

Will a sealer make limestone shiny?

Not a penetrating sealer. It leaves the honed finish as it is.

How long does limestone sealer last?

Usually a few years outdoors, depending on sun, salt, pool use and cleaning.

Can stains be removed before sealing?

Many can, with a targeted treatment. Some old stains only fade, and we'll tell you which.

Can I use any sealer on limestone?

It's best to use one made for soft, porous stone. The wrong product can darken it unevenly or trap moisture.

Do you seal limestone walls?

Yes. Feature walls and block limestone can be sealed to slow staining.
