What brick sealing with us looks like
Brick and mortar soak up rain. On exposed walls that means damp patches, white efflorescence and mould on the shady side. On brick paving it means oil, leaf stains and moss. A good sealer cuts down how much water gets in while still letting the brick breathe.
We clean the brickwork first, treat efflorescence and mould, and let it dry. Then we apply a penetrating water-repellent sealer that doesn't change the look of the brick or leave a shine. On paving we can use a sealer that brings up the colour if you'd like it.

Why brick needs a breathable sealer
Brick walls need to let moisture out as well as keep rain off. A film-forming coating can trap water behind it, which leads to flaking and spalling faces. That's why we use penetrating sealers on brick walls, which line the pores without blocking them.
Sealing heritage brick
Soft old bricks and lime mortar need a gentle clean and a sealer suited to old masonry. If the pointing is damaged, it should be repaired before sealing, and we'll tell you if we see that.

Should I seal my brick house?
It helps on exposed walls that get wind-driven rain or damp patches. We'll tell you if your walls would benefit.
Will sealing change how my brick looks?
A penetrating sealer on walls leaves no shine and little or no colour change. Paving can be sealed for a deeper colour if you want it.
Can sealing stop efflorescence?
It reduces it by limiting the water moving through the brick. If water is coming from below or behind, that needs fixing too.
Can you seal brick paving?
Yes, after a clean. It helps keep oil, leaves and moss on the surface.
Do you seal old brick?
Yes, with a gentle clean and a breathable sealer suited to old masonry.
How long does brick sealer last?
Penetrating sealers on walls usually last several years. We'll show you a water test so you can check it.
